Pinterest Makes Buyable Pins Available, One Item At A Time

| By

Pinterest developers have officially launched the application's Buyable Pins feature, which allows users to directly purchase items posted on the site.

However, customers will only be able to purchase one item at a time, Mashable reports.

"The idea is to help people quickly buy an item they discover and love, and then get back to Pinning," a Pinterest spokesperson told the site.

"We hope to add new ways to shop in the future."

Pinterest's Buyable Pins feature uses online payment systems like Apple Pay, Braintree and Stripe.

"Pinterest isn't about getting your chores done. It is about helping you discover beautiful products that you love," Pinterest Chief Executive Officer Ben Silbermann told an audience at the company's headquarters, according to the Financial Times.

Silbermann also revealed that the ability to purchase goods on the site was ranked as the number one request from users around the world.

Instagram, one of Pinterest's main competitors, will also receive an important update related to the marketing of goods on its site. Facebook officials (who purchased the site in 2012) announced on Tuesday that the mobile photo and video-sharing application's feed will not be open to al advertisers.

Pinterest was founded in 2010.
