Channing Tatum is one of today's hottest actors and fans can see his sexy dance moves again in "Magic Mike XXL" on July 1, 2015.
Before the 35-year-old actor reached his current status, he already showed his dancing skills in the 2006 film "Step Up." But the movie that boosted his career is "G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra" which was released in 2009.
However, not many people know that Channing Tatum despised that movie.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the "Jupiter Ascending" actor was forced to star as Duke in "G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra" since that was part of his contract with Paramount Pictures. He revealed this during his guest appearance at the Howard Stern radio show.
"Look, I'll be honest. I f***ing hate that movie," he admitted. "I didn't want to do something that was 1) bad and 2) I didn't know if I wanted to be G.I. Joe." The role was offered to Channing Tatum during the Writers Guild of America strike between 2007 and 2008. "The script wasn't any good," the actor added. Even if he thinks that it is a bad movie, the film still grossed over $302 million worldwide.
The "Magic Mike XXL" star also admitted that he wasn't impressed by Paramount's upfront payment for a three-picture deal contract. "So I'm sitting there, and they give you the contract...as a young [actor] you're like, 'Oh my god, yeah that sounds amazing,'" he shared.
"G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra" was Channing Tatum's first movie to play a lead role, but he revealed that he actually preferred playing Snake Eyes instead of Duke.
Unfortunately, Paramount didn't agree with that and the studio even threatened him.
"[They say] you're going to do this or we're going to sue you," the Alabama-born actor said.
The Hollywood superstar tried to look at the brighter side of what happened to him and was finally grateful for starring in "G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra."
"I could have been given 'Scream 5' or something...I'm super lucky and blessed to have been given that film," he said. If it wasn't for that movie, fans won't probably see Channing Tatum in the sequel of "Magic Mike."
