| By

Dunkin' Brands, the parent company of Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin-Robbins, is making a $100,000 donation to the American Red Cross in an effort to support Hurricane Sandy disaster relief efforts, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

"As those affected continue to feel the impact of Hurricane Sandy, our goal is that the company's donation to the American Red Cross will help provide assistance to the millions of people who have been displaced by the storm," said Karen Raskopf, co-chair of the Dunkin' Donuts & Baskin-Robbins Community Foundation and chief communications officer at Dunkin' Brands, in a statement.

"Food banks also now face great challenges, and their needs will only increase as the holidays draw closer. We hope The Dunkin' Donuts & Baskin-Robbins Community Foundation's donation to Feeding America will help local food banks support our communities during this difficult time."

After Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast, local Dunkin' Brands franchisees sent trucks out into the communities to serve free coffee and hot chocolate to relief workers and residents.

Similarly, McDonald's Corporation donated $500,000 to the American Red Cross last week in a bid to help Hurricane Sandy victims.
