The director of "Fantastic Four" reboot knew that he will get violent reaction from die-hard fans once he announced the new cast of the Marvel remake. "I knew it was going to get ugly," Josh Trank said during an interview with Hero Complex magazine as reported by LA Times.
Many people criticized him for choosing Michael B. Jordan to portray Johnny Storm a.k.a. The Human Torch and Jamie Bell for playing Ben Grimm a.k.a. The Thing. In the previous "Fantastic Four" films, they casted a white actor for The Human Torch and a buffed actor for The Thing that's why many people were surprised when Trank chose a black guy for Johnny Storm and a 5-foot-7 actor for Ben Grimm.
"It only speaks to the greatness of any story that has been told for decades or centuries that people still want to tell that story," the 31-year-old director explained. "But you can't just keep telling it the same way over and over again. And I think it only helps the world to be more honest with young kids, to show them the world that they go walk outside and see."
The producer of "Fantastic Four" remake, Simon Kinberg, showed his support on Josh Trank's casting and tried to explain why they had chosen Jamie Bell for the role of The Thing. "The change of Jamie as Ben being a smaller guy instead of a bigger guy, for example, was for a purpose," he said. "It's more dramatic when that character becomes a huge rock creature - that's a bigger transformation."
Known for his work on several "X-Men" movies, the 41-year-old producer revealed that they also took a risk when they casted Hugh Jackman for Wolverine. "If you look at Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, everybody was upset at first that Wolverine was tall and now nobody can imagine anybody else other than Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine," Kinberg said.
Maybe Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell would both end up becoming iconic like Hugh Jackman once they give justice to their new role in "Fantastic Four" reboot. Find out if they do meet the viewers' expectations on August 7, 2015.
