Paul Feig Bashes The Old ‘Ghostbusters 3’ Scripts! Is The Director Ready To Fight His Haters? ‘A Lot Of People Are Mad Because It’s A Reboot’

| By

When Paul Feig announced early this year that "Ghostbusters 3" will feature funny women, many die-hard fans started reacting negatively to the news.

Despite the criticisms, the director managed to stay firm with his decision and confident that the lead stars which include Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones will be able to pull it off.

"I'm excited! Those four ladies I have starring in it are so funny and that's half the battle. I'm going to battle with the best army I have," Feig told Empire Podcast. "My whole crew from all my other movies have come aboard, and some great special effects people have come aboard - I have never really done this level of effects before - and I'm excited!"

The "Ghostbusters 3" director could be referring that battle against his haters and bashers. A few months ago, Paul Feig admitted how shocked he was about the different reaction of people on the reboot.

"The first wave when you make an announcement like that is overwhelmingly positive. Everyone's so happy and you're like, 'This is great,'" he told Variety. Then comes the second wave and you're like, 'Oh my God. Some of the most vile, misogynistic sh** I've ever seen in my life.'"

Paul Feig tried to explain to Empire why he had to do a reboot and not a sequel so fans will understand it better. "A lot of people are mad because it's a reboot. But I don't know how to do it any other way, because it's been 25 years since the last one," he said.

"Harold has gone, Bill doesn't want to do it, and I love Dan and Ernie, but people had written those scripts and they were fine, but it felt sweaty to me, it felt like a wheel was off the cart. I thought, 'Why don't we go into this and reinvent it so we can go into a world that doesn't have ghosts?'" the 52-year-old filmmaker added.

Paul Feig's expertise is doing female-centric comedies having worked on "Bridesmaids", "The Heat", and the recently released "Spy," so he may eventually pull off doing a female version of "Ghostbusters."

"It's always a risk, but every movie you make is a risk," he said. "This one just happens to be one that's toying with everyone's childhoods!"

"Ghostbusters 3" will start filming in Boston in a few weeks and is scheduled for release on July 22, 2016.
