Many fans reacted when they've heard the news that "Ghostbusters 3" is ready to shoot in Boston, Massachusetts.
"The all-women version starring Kristen Wiig and c- (rumored to be Cecily Strong) is scheduled to get underway in the coming days," a source told Boston Herald. "Word is, director Paul Feig, who did 'The Heat' here with McCarthy and Sandra Bullock a few years back, is in town prepping for the start of shooting."
During an interview with IGN, the "Spy" director was asked if the remake will be set in Boston.
"Oh no, it takes place in New York," Feig assured the fans. "We're just shooting mostly in Boston. The original Ghostbusters shot mostly in LA and then they went to New York and shot some exteriors, so that's basically what we'll be doing too."
The 52-year-old director further explained why they need to shoot some scenes in Boston.
"It just comes down to money and our budget is so high that we need the tax incentive that Massachusetts provides."
Paul Feig also admitted that there were moments that he thought of changing the setting of "Ghostbusters 3" to Boston since that's where they will be filming, but that felt wrong for him.
"Some of the fans are mad at me about doing a reboot and even I would be mad at myself if I pulled it out of New York," he said. Last January, the "Bridesmaids" director confirmed that he is not steering away from the original film. "To me it's such a New York movie and the biggest sin would be to pull it out of there," Feig told Empire. "I just love New York and, selfishly, I just want to shoot in New York."
The filmmaker also said that they are not recreating the 1984 comedy, but they will do enough fun nods to acknowledge it. In a previous interview with IGN, Paul Feig revealed that Melissa McCarthy will be the head of the female ghost busters, but there are no specifics yet with what kind of leader she would be.
Based on the latest "Ghostbusters 3" news, the 44-year-old actress may become the female version of Bill Murray's character Peter Venkman.
