A few months ago, there were rumors that the "Furious 7" director James Wan is the frontrunner to direct "Aquaman." However, Universal may ask the filmmaker to direct "Fast 8" since the sequel does not have a director at the moment.
Despite that report, some people believe that the 38-year-old filmmaker will still accept the offer since he's already done with his projects thus giving him free time to shoot the 2018 DC movie.
It looks like the rumors were correct because Warner Bros. Pictures recently announced that James Wan will be directing "Aquaman" which stars Jason Momoa as the Atlantean superhero.
According to ComingSoon.net, this isn't the first time that the studio has worked with the "Insidious" director.
"We've been so lucky to have worked with James, first on New Line's 'The Conjuring' and now on their upcoming 'The Conjuring 2,' and are thrilled to have him on board as we continue to expand our DC slate," Greg Silverman of Warner Bros. Pictures said.
The studio's creative development and worldwide production president also revealed how much important the movie is for them. "The 'Aquaman' film will be a major tentpole picture for us and James's span of work has proven him able to take on any manner of project, bringing his incredible creative talent and unique voice to the material," Silverman explained.
"Aquaman" will be produced by Zack Snyder (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) and his wife Deborah Snyder (Watchmen) together with Charles Roven (Man of Steel). The script of the film will be written by Kurt Johnstad, who wrote "300" and its sequel "300: Rise of an Empire."
"James is not only a great storyteller but can make action truly explode on the big screen, and Jason has a dynamic presence that commands your attention," Roven said. "Together, they will bring an undeniable vitality and energy to this character as he headlines his first feature film."
Before starring in the DC superhero's solo movie, Jason Momoa's character will debut in "Batman v Superman" on March 25, 2016. He will also most likely appear in "Justice League" parts one and two on 2017 and 2019. With the success of "Fast and Furious 7", many fans are now excited to see what James Wan will do with "Aquaman."
