Tech analyst Mary Meeker forecasted that the "buy button" is about to dominate the Web at the annual Re/code's Code Conference on Wednesday.
"What's the next growth spurt after video? 'Buy buttons' would be Meeker's bet."
According to Re/code writer Jason Del Rey, the shop button is an experiment mean to address payment issues raised by online stores.
"A nagging issue for online retailers paying for PLAs is conversion - getting someone who clicked on a product image to complete the purchase. Google is positioning the experiment as a way to help retailers fix that by reducing the number of steps between viewing the ad and completing an order."
With the growth of smartphone use and the rise of mobile commerce, bringing people's favorite stores to their fingertips will be a walk in the park for social networking sites.
"Meeker predicts that Buy buttons will take off, because they are optimized for frictionless shopping on mobile phones." Fortune said.
In fact, Twitter already has a shop option across its existing ads, while Facebook, Google and Pinterest are joining the Bandwagon soon.
"Twitter introduced an in-stream Buy button last Fall, and Facebook and Pinterest are expected to follow suit with respective Buy buttons," Re/code reported.
Despite incipient business risks, Google confirmed the upcoming launch of the tech giant's shopping tabs.
"There's going to be a buy button. It's going to be imminent," chief business officer for Google Omid Kordestani declared.
Google's move poses problems in the corporate world online, as it threatens to compete with online retail authorities, like Amazon and eBay.
"But the move marks a major and potentially risky strategy shift that will turn the company into more of an online transactional business, rather than simply a provider of links to information elsewhere on the internet," the Wall Street Journal said.
