While fans are eagerly waiting for "God of War 4," it seems that its PS4 release date is not happening anytime soon.
Cross Map reported that the fourth installment to the third-person action adventure game will most likely hit the shelves either in 2017 or 2018.
Head writer Cory Barlog clarified in an interview with PlayStation Blog that the developers are still busy working on a "God fo War 3" remastered version, which will be released on July 14.
Reportedly, it's going to serve as a testing ground before Sony's Santa Monica Studio pursue with "God of War 4."
"Imagine if a game like that [God of War 3] came out on PS4, right," Barlog explained. "Well, thanks to the fine folks at SCEA (or Santa Monica Studio) we do not have to imagine anymore because God of War III Remastered is here!"
In addition, Barlog explained that they're not rushing into "God of War 4" instead they want gamers who have yet experienced "GOW 3" to enjoy the remastered version first.
"Remasters often help us open the door to new players who perhaps did not play 'God of War 3' five years ago, but who we can bring it to on the PlayStation 4," he said in the post. "People often forget, the more players we can bring into a franchise, the better for everyone. At Santa Monica Studio, we'd like as many PlayStation fans to experience our games as possible, from generation to generation."
In line with the release date news, Movie Pilot added that "God of War 4" would most likely introduce a new mythological creature that could replace Kratos from the franchise.
