Fans were thrilled when they saw a leaked footage that featured Spider-Man. The video was allegedly the post-credits of "Avengers 2."
YouTube user SpideyAoU posted the clip last Sunday and it now has more than 1.7 million views. Check out the video below:
According to Radio Times, the "Avengers: Age of Ultron" after-credits scene gave viewers a first glimpse of Spider-Man, who will debut with Marvel in "Captain America: Civil War."
Thanks to the studio's collaboration with Sony, people can now see the web-slinging superhero in Marvel's upcoming movie before its reboot hits the big screen on July 2017.
"The leaked footage looked very plausible, with the Avengers tower lingering in the background, and Spidey being revealed in a visually clever, Marvel-esque way," the website reported. They also speculated that the video may have been shown in a private screening because of the Spanish subtitles.
During the press conference of the "Avengers: Age of Ultron" in London, Joss Whedon revealed that the post-credits scene was fake. "Yeah that's not real. I don't know where that started. I don't know who came up with it," he said.
"We wanted to be clear there was no tag scene at the very end of the film because after sitting through 40 minutes of credits and not seeing anything we thought people would be irate. No, I don't know where that started," the 50-year-old director added.
It's been a trend in Marvel movies that an after-credits scene is shown to hype up their upcoming films. However, Marvel CEO Kevin Feige and director Joss Whedon revealed a few weeks ago that viewers should not expect any post-credits in "Avengers 2."
"There is nothing at the very end. And that's not a fake-out," Whedon told Entertainment Weekly. "We want people to know so they don't sit there for 10 minutes and then go: 'Son of a bitch! I'll kill them!'" Don't worry because the president of Marvel Studios admitted that fans can expect a short, epilogue-like scene that will pop up after the credits begin so there's still a chance that viewers can see Spider-Man. "There will be a tag," Feige said. "But there's not a post-post-credit scene."
