Chinese car maker BYD has announced a recall of almost 97,000 electric cars (EVs) because of possible fire dangers linked to a part that controls the steering. This recall affects popular models like the Dolphin and Yuan Plus.
On Sunday, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) shared the news about the recall, explaining that the affected cars were made in China between November 2022 and December 2023.

BYD Recalls Dolphin, Yuan Plus Cars
The decision was made because there are concerns about a problem in how these cars were built, which could put drivers and passengers at risk.
BYD has not yet said anything about the recall or answered questions about what happened. However, the SAMR reported that BYD plans to ask its dealers to fix the problems in the recalled cars.
The report did not mention whether any of these cars had been sold in other countries, leaving customers wondering how widespread the issue might be.
The Dolphin and Yuan Plus models are BYD's best-selling cars. Together, they make up 26% of the company's total sales in 2023. BYD sold around three million cars this year, so this recall is a big deal because these models play a huge role in the company's success.
This recall is unusual for BYD, which has quickly become the largest seller of electric and plug-in hybrid cars in the world. In the past, the company had a few recalls, including a small group of Tang plug-in hybrids recalled in 2022 due to a problem with the battery that could cause fires, according to WION.
