Qdoba Mexican Grill will be opening up a store in Ohio State University, according to a report.
Franchisee Dave Bookman plans to open his first outlet for the quick-casual Mexican chain by mid-October at 1956 N. High St., about a block south of Lane Avenue across from Arps Hall, according to Bizjournals.
"We look at OSU as a prime area to open up," he said. "The demographics are perfect. Students are right in the wheelhouse."
Denver-based Qdoba Restaurant Corp. has three restaurants in Central Ohio with a different franchisee.
The menu goes beyond burritos and tacos to include soup, quesadillas, taco salads and nachos. It offers two-piece combo meals and has a sauce selection beyond salsas. Bookman singled out the three-cheese queso as a customer favorite. Dishes are between $6 and $8. He declined to share sales projections. According to the report, the High Street space is 2,200 square feet and will seat 64.
Bookman is committed to at least three Qdoba restaurants in the market, but could do more if the returns are what he hopes. The OSU restaurant will have good foot traffic and High Street visibility, which he said could help build brand awareness in the market.
