Fast-food chain Chick-fil-A was recently called out when their president said he was against same-sex marriages, and now the company has back-tracked, stating that the topic was best left for the government to deal with.
Chick-fil-A's president Dan Cathy admitted that his company was "guilty as charged" of supporting what he called the "biblical definition" of the family unit, reported the Associated Press, which he told to the Baptist Press. Gay rights advocates worldwide were open about their outrage and opposition against this comment.
Chick-fil-A's stated that they have a history of applying biblically-based principles to its business, noted the Associated Press, and to treat everyone with honor, dignity, and respect.
However, on their official Facebook page, Chick-fil-A stated the following regarding this, as a way to cover them from more backlashes from advocates and human rights fighters.
"The Chick-fil-A culture and service tradition in our restaurants is to treat every person with honor, dignity and respect - regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender," Chick-fil-A stated on their Facebook on Thursday. "We will continue this tradition in the over 1,600 Restaurants run by independent Owner/Operators. Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena.
"Chick-fil-A is a family-owned and family-led company serving the communities in which it operates. From the day Truett Cathy started the company, he began applying biblically-based principles to managing his business. For example, we believe that closing on Sundays, operating debt-free and devoting a percentage of our profits back to our communities are what make us a stronger company and Chick-fil-A family."
