Toyota Motors revealed on Friday that it will be recalling two of its Lexus brands due to the issue of an possible floor mat entrapment of the accelerator pedal.

Toyota noted that two of its models, the 2010 RX350, of which there are about 131,800 models available, and the 2010 RX450h, that have 22,200 vehicles in the public, were recalled because they had the potential for unsecured or incompatible floor mat entrapment of the accelerator pedal, said a press release issued by Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. on Friday. This will add to the over 14 million vehicles Toyota has already recalled worldwide to fix floor mat, gas pedal, and other safety issues, said the Associated Press.

Toyota noted that owners of the two Lexus models of the vehicles will receive a safety recall notification by first class mail sometime in early August, and that Lexus dealers will fix the models at no extra cost to the customers, noted the press release. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

Toyota was asked to recall the models by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, said the Associated Press in a report on Friday. The agency noted that it made the request after having gone through consumer complaints about the Lexus models, and from information they received from Toyota Motors, the AP said.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration noted that gas pedals could become trapped by floor mats, and that could have caused the Lexus SUVs to accelerate unexpected, said the Associated Press. The agency noted that consumers who purchased either model of the Lexus SUV should immediately remove the driver's side floor mat and have their cars checked quickly by a dealer or mechanic, stated the Associated Press.

This is the latest in Lexus model recalls. In May, Lexus filed a Defect Information Report with the National Highway Safety Administration stating that it will do a safety recall of around 650 of its GS 350F 2013 models to update the Variable Gear Ratio Steering electronic control unit calibration, noted Lexus on their official website.
