Ray Rice NFL Return Set; Embattled Baltimore Ravens Star Wins Appeal To Be Reinstated

| By

Ray Rice NFL return will happen anytime soon as the Baltimore Ravens star wins his appeal to overturn the suspension handed to him by the league following a domestic abuse case. In March of this year, the 27-year old running back was arrested and subsequently indicted for third-degree aggravated assault on his wife Janay Palmer. This case became one of the most prominent domestic abuse cases in professional American football after TMZ released a video of the encounter between the couple in an elevator at an Atlanta hotel.

On September, the NFL suspended Rice indefinitely right after his mother team terminated his contract. Two months after, the court has ruled that Ray Rice can make his NFL comeback. According to reports, the six-year veteran won his appeal and can return immediately.

NFL.com's Ian Rapport provided in-depth accounts of the reading.

"Source: Former #Ravens RB Ray Rice has won his appeal." - he said on his Twitter account.

"Ray Rice is immediately eligible, source says, by winning his appeal," he then wrote.

"Judge Barbara Jones believed that Ray Rice "did not mislead the Commissioner at the June 16 meeting." Says second suspension was "arbitrary"

The league confirmed news of Ray Rice NFL return through its website.

"Rice had filed the appeal to overturn the indefinite suspension handed down by the NFL at the beginning of the season after video footage surfaced of him punching his then-fiancée in Atlantic City. The decision follows a two-day appeal hearing -- and hours of testimony -- that took place earlier this month in New York.

The basis of the running back's argument, as NFL Media's Judy Battista reported in the hearing's wake, was that the former Ravens player was subjected to double jeopardy when the league indefinitely suspended him. Rice was originally banned for two games after the video footage surfaced.

Rice believes that the NFL received no new information when the video became public -- and that Commissioner Roger Goodell knew all the details at the time of the original decision."
