New York Knicks and Carmelo Anthony are not in a great situation right now in the ongoing NBA season. Currently, they are at the 12th spot of the Eastern Conference standings with a 4-13 Win-Loss record. In their last 10, they lost nine games. The Madison Square Garden-based franchise promised to improve their last season wherein they missed the playoffs. To do that, they made sure that they will services of Carmelo Anthony. However, things are not going well. What more if they lost Carmelo in the free agency?
In an upcoming documentary about Carmelo Anthony's days as a free agent, he revealed that he was close to signing with the Chicago Bulls that courted him. Even team's superstar Derrick Rose pitched in to lure Carmelo to the Windy City. The documentary is titled "Carmelo Anthony: Made in NY" and will air on MSG Network on Tuesday.
"It came down to Chicago and New York,'' Anthony said during the program as reported by the New York Post.
"It was a perfect setup and perfect fit for me in Chicago. But also I had to think about just living in Chicago. Do I want to live in Chicago? Do I want to take everything I created in New York and move all of that? It came down to that. But there was one point in time I was like, 'Oh, I'm going.'''
New York Knicks' Carmelo Anthony was one, if not the most coveted free agents in the NBA last June. He is also the most expensive as he expects nothing but maximum contract. The deal with Chicago fell down. As expected, the reason behind is Anthony's expensive tag price. Chicago Bulls could only offer $74 million. Carmelo re-signed with the Knicks on a five-year deal worth $122 million.
Although Carmelo Anthony once thought of leaving the New York Knicks, a team close to his heart since he spent the better years of his life in the Big Apple, his agent Bay Frazier insists Melo remains loyal.
"He goes to bed one night saying he wants to go to Chicago. He wakes up the next day and says New York. Then he's stuck again. That's how he feels. And he's so loyal to New York he wants to stay and become a champion there. Which would blow everything away.''
