Western Digital announced that it will be releasing its first line of wireless home networking products, with high-definition aspects, which were designed to accelerate the viewing of movies, video, and gaming.
The "My Net" line of wireless routers will contain the FasTrack technology, that will instantly detect traffic on the internet network and sends its straight to gaming consoles, media players, smart TVs, tablets, smartphones, computers and other electronics connected through the network, said Western Digital in a press release issued on Friday. The routers will be available at eletronics retailers like Best Buy and RadioShack.
"With so many people within the home simultaneously watching movies, playing games and browsing the Web via their iPad®, iPhone®, Xbox® and other devices, the network demands placed on today's connected home has grown exponentially," Jim Welsh, executive vice president for WD's branded products and consumer electronics groups, stated for the press release.
"Our successes in creating Connected Home solutions with our WD TV media players and personal cloud products have given us valuable insights into the network-overload problems of home wireless users, and entering the wireless home networking market offers WD an exciting opportunity to strengthen our Connected Home offerings that are aimed at enhancing the home entertainment experience for consumers," Welsh added.
The routers set to contain high-definition aspects include the My Net N900 central, said the press release, that will also feature integrated storage at either 1TB or 2TB for wireless backup and remote access. The N900 Central promises internet speed up to 900 Mbps (450 + 450 Mbps on the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands combined), and 4 LAN and 1 WLAN Gigabit Ethernet ports for all the way up to 1000 Mbps wired speeds.
Other such available router options, with HD, for My Net include the My Net N900, with extra 3D for media streaming and online gaming that will come with 7 LAN for wired internet services. The My Net N750 will have internet speeds up to 750 Mbps and feature 5 Gigabit Ethernet ports, and the My Net N600 will have data internet speeds of a maximum of 600 Mbps, noted the press release, and 5 Fast Ethernet ports for internet and web services.
The My Net N900 Central at 2TB storage will cost an estimated $350, and about $300 for 1TB of storage; the My Net N900 will go for $180, and the My Net N70 FOR $120. All but the My Net N900 Central is already available for purchase, from June 14th; the Central will be sold sometime in the next quarter, said the press release.
