Acer's Iconia Tab A700, a new high-resolution tablet, was put up for presales this week in the hopes that the Android electronic device will be a potential market threat to Apple's third generation iPad.
Acer's Iconia tablet will feature a 1920-be-1200 pixel resolution for its screen, and 32GB of storage at the price of $450, coming in at a quarter of the price of an third-generation iPad with the same storage capacity, said a report from PC World. The Acer's Iconia tablets will be shipped out in July to consumers, and will be available in either black or silver for full high-definition viewing.
Acer and Asus companies were the only two Android tablet makers to build and introduce a high-definition model of their electronics this past January at CES 2012 as a "full HD," noted PC World. Acer updated its screen definition from the existing model which has 1280 by 800 pixel resolution; the new models have 55 percent higher density resolution than the models currently for sale in the market at such franchises like Target and Best Buy. The new Iconia tablet will also have a 16:10 aspect ratio for its screen and a 178-degree viewing angle, said PC World, as well as a 10-point touch-capacitive screen.
The Acer models have a microSD card slot for those interested in wanting more overall space in their tablets, and can increase it to up to 64GB, twice what the Iconia tablet itself comes in. This is a huge difference from Apple's iPads, who come in various models and do not allow for an upgrade or addition to its storage facility, noted PC World. Also, the $450 price tag on the 32GB Iconia tablet is far less than the $600 cost for a 32GB third-generation iPad.
Other additions featured in the soon-to-be-released Iconia tablet included a 9800-mAh battery with a potential life for 10.5 hours, including video playback, said PC World. The model also features a Dolby Mobile 3 and improved audio capture facilities, along with built-in GPS unit and electronic-compass, wireless connectivity, and Bluetooth 2.1.
