Previous Gotham TV series spoilers spoke about the arrival of new characters, most notably Scarecrow, Hush, and a pre-natal Robin. This is after Harvey Dent, played by Nicholas d'Agosto, made his debut in ninth episode. The show is not stopping there when it comes to adding new familiar Batman characters. Is Ra's al Ghul one of them?
As you all know, Ghul is one of Batman's greatest enemies although in the comics he once considered Bruce Wayne as his heir. As for Gotham City, he is deeply connected to it. In "Resurrection Night" in Batman #400, he was the one who helped Batman's enemies from Arkham Asylum.
In an interview with the Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Bruno Heller was asked whether Ra's al Ghul will be in Gotham TV series. His answer isn't clear as he indicated that is not in his hands.
"It doesn't preclude him from joining Gotham, but now you're deep into Geoff Johns' territory, so you'd have to ask him. Where was Ra's al Ghul in this particular juncture in Batman's life? He was probably a teenager as well, with Mrs. al Ghul making him sandwiches and sending him off to Ghul school," he said.
Geoff Johns is the chief creative officer of DC Comics and he is currently working on Arrow and the Flash but not Gotham. In Arrow Season 3, Ra's al Ghul already made a brief appearance.
Meanwhile, while Gotham TV series keep on adding new characters, fans are also wondering when will it kill one major persona? Since the show is a prequel to the days before Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) became Batman, erasing major characters that became part of the life of the cape crusader's old life is impossible. However, Heller said that they are not closing any doors, although he would hate it to see a Gotham character go.
"You'd need a damn good reason to do it and a damn good end game to justify it. We're certainly just learning the ropes at this stage. Not to be modest about it, but we're still learning how to do a show this big. I'm always deeply reluctant to kill off characters simply for the shock value of killing them off. I'm not averse to cheap tricks."
Gotham TV series winter finale will air on November 24.
