As a means to cater to the millions of dogs and cats in the United States suffering from some kind of food allergy or sensitivity, Wellness Natural Pet Food brand released 49 new products to its label to cater to those pets with specific nutritional needs.
A study by Dr. Stephen White of the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine from January 2012 titled "Veterinary Q&A: Food Allergies" found that about 8 million dogs and cats may suffer with food allergies, specifically requiring grain-free and other restriction-set diets, said a press release issued by WellPet, LLC on Wednesday. To cater to the pets' needs, Wellness created 12 new grain-free recipes for cats and nine for dogs.
"We've heard from many pet parents who are looking to help manage their pets' food sensitivities and allergies, and from those looking for more grain-free nutrition options," Thano Chaltas, chief marketing officer, at WellPet, stated for the press release. "Our dedicated team of nutritionists, veterinarians and product development specialists created these innovative new recipes to help serve these pets' specific nutritional needs and tastes."
Wellness expanded its Dry Core formulas for puppies and kittens to ensure that the young pets would have DHA to support healthy brain and eye development, said the press release. The new products will include nutrients like antioxidants and probiotics, and contain no grains like corn, soy, or artificial flavors and preservatives.
This extends to the assortment of new canine canned foods Wellness offers, like their CORE beef, venison and lamb formula; weight management formula, turkey, porky liver and duck formula; and recipes catered to smaller breeds of dogs. Cats will receive the same kids of allergy-friendly recipes, like, as listed in the press release: a Dry Core Turkey, Turkey Meal and Duck formula; Beef, Venison and Lamb formula; and Turkey and Duck formula.
"We developed the CORE recipes for pet parents who are looking for a diet packed with a high concentration of high-quality meat, without fillers or grains for a pet's diet," Dr. Al Townshend, Staff Veterinarian for WellPet, was quoted for the press release. "The CORE recipes are based on a pet's primal diet, while providing complete and balanced nutrition."
