JetBlue Bag-Check Fee And Added Seats Policies Receive Mixed Responses

| By

JetBlue has announced plans to include additional seats on plans while implementing a new bag-check fee-the new policies have received mix responses from investors and consumers.

"We're very excited about what we're doing in the cabins," Commercial Senior Vice President Marty St. George said, according to Bloomberg Businessweek.

"We see this as an upgrade. Maybe we're naive, but I was very surprised to get blasted like we did. I think this is a very good story."

JetBlue's stock looked particularly well for investors as its shares rose to the highest it has ever been in almost eight years. A number of financial analysts have argued in favor of maintaining the policies.

On the consumer end, however, there have been several complaints about the seat changes and bag-check fee.

"JetBlue has become yet another flying bus ... bad move. #jetbluenomore," one customer tweeted, Bloomberg Businessweek also reports.

"@JetBlue more fees, less legroom not what customers want."

The airline, known for its no-bag-fee policy, has not decided to introduce a fare structure where lower-priced tickets will come with an extra charge for luggage being checked in. Other airlines, including Spirit, have implemented this model in recent years.

The company's president Robin Hayes is expected to assume the position of Chief Executive Officer in February.
