Local South Carolina chain Lowcounty Food Bank announced on Monday that it teamed up with Sunoco, Inc. across the state to purchase a blend of coffee made specifically for the 26 regional A-Plus stores located in the southern state.
A cup of the Lowcounty new brew will be donated to the Lowcounty Food Bank, out to support to poor and hungry across 10 coastal counties in South Carolina, said a press release issued by the organization Monday, for every purchase made of the coffee at any A-Plus store.
"Lowcountry Food Bank plays an integral role here and throughout the ten-county region they serve," Ruth Clauser, president, Sunoco Foundation, stated for the press release. "Hunger and food shortages in homes are still an ongoing battle nationwide and Sunoco is proud to work with food banks nationally to help local organizations battle the ongoing challenges of hunger. The new offering of the Lowcountry Blend at local APlus stores and the donation of a cup-for-a-cup is an opportunity for area residents to help their neighbors in need."
The new coffee brew blend, listed the press release, contains a mixture of Costa Rican, Guatemalan, Mexican and Honduras coffees with a nutty flavor, and created for the Lowcounty residents of South Carolina via their coffee roaster, Coffee Bean International.
"On behalf of the Lowcountry Food Bank and the thousands of food insecure families we serve, I would like to thank Sunoco for their partnership and commitment to fighting hunger in our community," Lowcountry Food Bank President and CEO, Pat Walker, was quoted as stating for the press release. "By including Lowcountry Food Bank in their Caffeinate Charleston campaign, Sunoco will create much needed hunger awareness for our neighbors in need. Their philanthropic leadership in our business community is inspiring."
Proceeds of sales of the coffee, called "Lowcounty Blend" after the name was voted on by local residents, A-Plus employees, regional business owners, and community leaders, will go towards the support of the Food Bank. The food bank, said the press release, distributes well over 18 million pounds of food a year.
"Sunoco is honored to provide this donation to Lowcountry Food Bank through our twenty-six APlus locations throughout the Lowcountry region," Cynthia Archer, Sunoco's vice president of marketing, commented for the press release. "Being able to help LCFB continue its mission to feed the poor and hungry of the ten coastal counties of South Carolina through the sales of the Lowcountry Blend is an honor and our store associates are thrilled to be a part of this campaign."
