House of Dereon creative director Tina Knowles, known famously as superstar celebrity Beyonce's mother, supervised the wardrobe worn by the Grammy-award-winning singer at her "Back to Business" tour, starting at the Revel Resort in Atlantic City, N.J, over the Memorial Day weekend.
Beyonce wore several House of Dereon Couture designs for her return on stage since giving birth to daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, earlier this year, said Parkwood Entertainment/Columbia Records in a press release issued Thursday. Two original costumes were created for Beyonce's four-day concert session in New Jersey from the House of Dereon fashion label by designers Tim White and Scott Nylund of the corporation.
"Performing these concerts were so personal to me," Columbia Records/Sony Music artist, Beyonce, stated for the press release. "Music is an expression of who I am and my performances needed to reflect my fashion aesthetic as well as the production elements incorporated into the staging for the shows."
"My mother and I are so close and connected on so many levels, both personally and professionally," Beyonce continued. "Having her design and supervise the wardrobe direction assures me that I will be able to express my love of music and fashion as well as my creative vision for the overall production."
Among the outfits worn by Beyonce at the concerts include those made with custom designed metallic leather and velvet applique, noted the press release, and Swarovski Crystals embedded into the fabrics. The making of the costumes took hundreds of hours of handwork from House of Dereon employees, which also included the designs of Beyonce's back-up singers, also designed by Knowles.
"This is the fun part of the job! To be able to design costumes for stage is a complete thrill on every level," Knowles commented as stating for the press release. "Through fashion, we are able to add an exciting visual component to the live performance which is what going to a concert is all about!"
