Sam's Club supermarket chains announced on Thursday that it will be offering free Men's Health Screenings across the country on Saturday, June 9th from 11:00am - 3:00pm local times as part of Men's Health Month in June, and with Father's Day fast approaching.

The general public, and Sam's Club members, will be allowed to receive a Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test to screen for accelerated PSA protein levels in the blood, said a press release issued Thursday by Sam's Club, a subsidiary of Wal-Mart Stores, would could inform medical professionals of a possible chance of benign prostate enlargement or even prostate cancer. The PSA exams will be given to the first 75 men participating in the screenings at Sam's Clubs that contain a pharmacy.

The free screenings will also include a body mass index (BMI) count and blood pressure examination, and will be limited to the first 50 men who show up and queue at pharmacies located at Sam's across the United States, noted the press release.

One participant of the Sam's Club free Men's Health Screenings in the Eden, N.C. area, from last year commented on how beneficial he found the treatment, which would generally cost up to $150 without the giveaway.

"My PSA level was eight, which is not good. By the time I [saw] a doctor six or eight weeks later, my level was 15," Sam's Club member Gary Wackler said for the press release. "There are all sorts of reasons why a PSA level can be elevated, by in my case it turned out to be an aggressive prostate cancer. Without Sam's Club, I might have gone another year without a PSA test, that PSA screening may very well have saved my life."

Sam's Club also stated that on July 14, 2012, they will support communities with free health screenings aimed towards the healthy aging.

"Life-changing experiences like Mr. Wackler's remind me why Sam's Club continues to invest in free health and wellness screenings to our communities every month," Jill Turner-Mitchael, senior vice president, Sam's Club Health and Wellness, was quoted as stating for the press release. "Sam's Club has provided more than one million free screenings since March 2011, and we continue to explore ways for our communities to manage their health needs with the convenience and value our members deserve."
