PepsiCo and Twitter announced on Wednesday that they would partner up for the "Live for Now Music" global music experience, where they would bring fans of the drink and their favorite music together by learning about and downloading music, all through social media website Twitter.com.
Part of the relationship between Pepsi and Twitter will include free weekly music downloads, music focused original videos, and a series of pop-up concerts throughout the rest of 2012, according to a press release issued by Pepsi. Pepsi's official Twitter handle, @Pepsi, will help promote the new music initiative set to continue for the next twelve months.
"The Pepsi partnership with Twitter is awesome on so many levels. Twitter is the quintessential 'now-time' media, which is a natural fit with our "Live for Now" global campaign," Brad Jakeman, president, Global Beverage Group, PepsiCo, stated for the press release. "Combine that with Pepsi's long association with music and the result makes for a cool and innovative experience for music fans everywhere."
A short-form video series is introduced each Wednesday, and will continue for the next year, for "Live for Now Music," allowing fans and Pepsi Twitter followers to recognize new bands and learn more about their background and style. News and trending topics related to the bands, singers, and songwriters will be posted through the Twitter handle, noted the press release.
"We're happy to join Pepsi in giving people new ways to indulge their musical passions on Twitter," Adam Bain, Twitter's president of global revenue, was quoted as saying for the press release. "Music is an essential part of the Twitter experience. Together, we will bring fans closer to the artists they love and help them listen to, see and discover more music."
Every week, @Pepsi Twitter followers will be offered free music downloads from the Amazon.com MP3 store if they include the #PepsiMusicNOW in their Twitter notes back to the corporate handle. Pepsi will also stage a series of pop-up concerts this summer and fall, according to the press release, which will all be exclusively announced on their Twitter and streamed through PepsiPulse.com; those concerts will be available on-demand, stated the press release, for those interested in viewing it at another time.
"Pepsi has been recognized as one of the leading brands in social media," Simon Lowden, chief marketing officer at PepsiCo Beverages North America, noted for the press release. "By partnering with Twitter, we are providing fans exclusive content and engaging millions of people around the world through one of their key passion points -- music."
