L.L. Bean announced that as part of its 100th anniversary, it will host a centennial celebration in their hometown of Freeport, ME, this coming Fourth of July weekend, with celebrity singers offering free concerts, free events, parades, and huge fireworks spectacular for locals and tourists alike on Main Street.
The outdoors clothing and gear company stated in a press release issued on Wednesday that $1 will be donated to the National Park Foundation through its Million Moment Mission for each person who participates in the centennial festivities in July. The campaign will assist the Foundation's programs for kids, and L.L. Bean stated it will give $1 for each person attending up to $1 million.
"While much has changed in 100 years, much has remained the same, especially our appreciation of the outdoors," Steve Fuller, L.L.Bean Chief Marketing Officer, stated for the press release. "There is no better way for L.L.Bean to celebrate its centennial than to enjoy the outdoors with our customers, employees and local community right here in Freeport where it all began."
Celebrities set to attend the festivities include singers Chris Isaak, who will hold a concert on Saturday, July 7th from 7:30 - 9:00pm, and Grammy nominee Jo Dee Messina, who will headline a concert on the Fourth of July at the Discovery Park in Freeport at 7:30pm. Notable Maine-bound authors will be in attendance on for fans' meet and greets on Friday, July 6th, along with Olympic gold medalist Seth Wescott, according to the press release, as well as retired Boston Red Sox player Rico Petrocelli.
Festivities currently scheduled for the four-day event include the 35th annual L.L. Bean 10K Road RACE AND Freeport Fun Run/Walk and Fourth of July parade, featuring the L.K. Bean Bootmobile the first day of the celebration. The next three days of the festivities will include free Outdoor Discovery School demonstrations like kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding, and Muddy Bean Boots ice cream sampling - a special blend made especially for the 100th anniversary - on July 5th, as listed by the press release.
Local markets and festivals will be held on Friday and Saturday of the Fourth of July weekend, with family and kids-friendly arts and crafts sessions, food and live general entertainment, as noted by the press release, and free concerts by regional artists.
