Friday, June 1 will launch National Donut Day, and two big donut-selling franchises will be giving away a free donut this week as promotion of it - LaMar's Donuts, and Krispy Kreme.
Both stores will be offering a free donut with no purchase necessary; Krispy Kreme's offer will extend to the United States and Canada while LaMar's will be nationwide (LaMar's Bars, Bizmarks, fritters, and other products without a center hole are exempt from the offer) , according to press releases issued by both donut-selling establishments. National Donut Day was established by the Salvation Army in 1938 to help raise money for people suffering through The Great Depression, and has been observed every year since in remembrance.
"On National Donut Day, we invite everyone to help us salute the Lassies and the military men they served by enjoying a LaMar's donut on us." LaMar's spokesperson Kayde Pierce said for the press release. "We take great care in making each and every donut a gourmet treat," Pierce said.
LaMar's Donuts, according to their press release, are made of no artificial preservatives and made from hand from the start at kneading the dough to finishing the glazing. While a much smaller franchise than Krispy Kremes, LaMar's Donuts are located in 27 stores across six states, according to the press release. The franchise began when Ray Lamar developed his first original donut recipe in 1933 as a teen, and eventually opened the first store in 1960 in Kansas City, MO.
The Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation has been selling their famed donuts and pastries on a conglomerate scale since its open 75 years ago, and is now celebrating its recipes, including the Original Glazed donut, buy inviting consumers to leave a message on their virtual Birthday Card, according to their press release issued Tuesday, interact with the Time Machine of Joy¸ and share memories on their website.
