One of Select Brands blenders was called in for a recall by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission on Thursday, due to reports of the plastic blender pitcher coming off from the blade assembly and exposing the metal rotating blades.
The Kitchen Selectives® 6-Speed Blender was found to pose a laceration hazard to consumers, reported the CPSC due to the sharp, blades of the blender being exposed to its users, although no reports of incidents or injuries involving the brand had been received yet, the government organization stated in a press release.
The blender, manufactured from China and imported from Select Brands Inc., of Lenexa, Kan., was previously sold in Pamida and Sutherlands retail stores in the Midwestern states from June 2009 to April 2012 for around $20, noted the press release.
The CPSC advised consumers to stop using the blender immediately as a safety precaution and return them to the retailer at which they purchased the goods to get a full refund. About 4,069 units of the Kitchen Selectives® 6-Speed Blender were sold. Other methods of contact in case of urgency, injury, or worry would be directly to Select Brands Customer Service, or to visit their website at www.selectbrands.com. The CPSC enforced that under federal U.S. law, the sales of recalled goods was illegal.
A detailed description of the blender was released by the CPSC press release, noting what parts of the apparatus were faulty and led to potential physical harm. They stated, "[the] recalled products are Kitchen Selectives 6-Speed Blenders, model BL-15. The model number is located on the bottom of the base. The blender consists of a six-inch tall, white electrical base with five, white speed-selector buttons labeled 1 through 5, one gray button labeled "Pulse/Off" and the logo "Kitchen Selectives®" in black letters on the front; a clear plastic pitcher with a handle with U.S. and metric volume measurement markings; a white plastic lid with a removable clear plastic lid stopper; and a white plastic blade assembly with two angled, stainless steel blades."
