First International Bruster's Real Ice Cream Shop Opens in Guyana

Bruster's Real Ice Cream announced on Thursday that it opened its first international store in the city of Georgetown, Guyana, in the expanding downtown area able to attract local residents and workers.

A sales team for Bruster's headed to Guyana for two weeks to help the local team prepare for the opening of the store, and was led by Todd Bilovus and Marcie Chong. On the opening day of the Georgetown branch, a live radio remote and lines from 9:00am - 10:00pm, with sales at $1.06 million Guyanese dollars, according to the press release issued by Bruster's on Thursday, which converts to $5,000 U.S. dollars.

"It's wonderful to see a big smile cross a child's face the first time they taste our product. We have already seen interest in our more unique flavors like Mango Ginger -made with fresh fruit from the market," Bilovus stated for the press release.

The WTG George and Company Ltd. Group, the parent company for Bruster's, already made plans to develop and open 14 more ice cream shops in the Guyana region, and are currently talks to create more stores for the franchise in the Caribbean and South American nations of Barbados, Jamaica, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago, the press release listed.

According to Bruster's CEO Jim Sahene, "We are excited about the expansion of our brand and taking it to the people in Guyana. The leaders at W&T George understand the restaurant industry, the importance of product consistency and quality service."

Selwin George, Director at W&T George stated for the press release that, "Bruster's is a world-class premium ice cream, and our partnership will transform the traditional landscape with the introduction of freshly-made ice cream to an underserved market."

Bruster's Real Ice Cream stores are located in 18 states across the U.S., at 220 venues, stated the press release. Bruster's shops provide more than 140 ice cream recipes and nearly 40 fresh flavors at any one time. Other refreshing desserts and snacks available at Bruster's include waffle cones, sorbets, Brrrain Freezes, Blasts, milk shakes, sundaes, cakes, pies, and seasonal foods like strawberry shortcakes and apple dumplings, said the press release.

The Guyanese store's success allowed for a new saying in the nation, said the press release: "In Guyana, a party ain't a party no more without a Bruster's ice cream cake."
