Peanut butter brand Jif announced on Thursday that it will offer a new variety of spreads made from a different kind of nut - hazelnut.
Jif will begin to sell two new hazelnut-brand spreads, paired with chocolate and coffee flavors. These include the Jif Chocolate Flavored Hazelnut Spread and Jif Mocha Cappuccino Flavored Hazelnut Spread, at any grocery-purchasing store, according to a press release issued by the J. M. Smucker Company, the parent company of Jif.
"As a brand with more than 50 years of peanut butter history, the new hazelnut spreads are a natural line extension for the #1 choice of choosy moms and dads," Maribeth Badertscher, Vice President, Corporate Communications, The J.M. Smucker Company, stated for the press release. "Jif Hazelnut Spreads offer a delicious new way to make more memorable meals and moments."
Both spreads will be available in 14.1-ounce plastic jars, similar to Jif's peanut butter spreads, and have just about the same amount of calories, calories from fat, total fat, cholesterol, and carbohydrates per serving - at two tablespoons.
Ingredients-wise, both spreads are nearly identical in what is contained in both, and in the order of volume, as listed on its nutrition facts sheet, as listed on Jif's official website for the hazelnut spreads. The only difference between the pair is that the Mocha Cappuccino Flavored Hazelnut Spread contains less than two percent of butter oil (milk), while the Chocolate Flavored Hazelnut Spread does not. Otherwise, they both contain sugar, vegetable oils made from rapeseed and palm, hazelnuts of course, cocoa processed with alkali, skim milk, and whey powder.
Jif offered a few recipes the hazelnut spreads could be used on, from various breakfasts, snacks, hot and cold beverages, and desserts, including mocha cappuccino crepes, chocolate hazelnut chip cookies, chocolate hazelnut banana stuffed French toast, hazelnut Boston Cream cupcakes, mocha mousse pie, hazelnut fruit pizza, and hazelnut joy ice cream, according to Jif's press release and official Jif hazelnut sub-website.
