Kmart Introduces New Walk-In Bill Payment Program to Pay Over 3,000 Bills In Person

| By

Kmart made it easier for customers to pay their bills when they set up their new in-store bill pay program, through the CheckFreePay walk-in bill payment service from Fiserv, announced the mass merchandising company on Wednesday.

Through the new plan, according to the press release issued by Kmart, customers can pay any of their bills, from electric, gas, water, utilities, cell phone, home phone, cable, satellite, TV, auto, insurance, credit cards, and 3,000 more, as listed on Kmart's official website, for $1.50 or less per bill transaction, which, according to the franchise, will be delivered to the biller by the next business day. All Kmart stores across the United States participated in the new billing system, where consumers pay through cash or PIN-based debit, stated Kmart. Consumers would simply, according to Kmart, have to bring in their bill statements and visit the Customer Service Desk at any local Kmart to have their payments sorted.

"We are continuously seeking convenient ways to help customers manage their personal finances. The debut of Kmart's in-store bill pay program does just that - it gives our customers access to a fast and convenient way to pay bills and manage their finances," Keith Brand, DVP Alternative Financial Services for Kmart, stated for the press release. "By providing services like this, we hope to make shopping at Kmart a more satisfying experience."

The CheckFreePay Corporation, stated Kmart in their press release, is officially licensed as a money transmitter by the New York State Department of Financial Services. Kmart is listed as an authorized agent for the CheckFreePay walk-in billing system. Kmart also noted that bills will be received to the billing company via CheckFreePay if processed before 7:00pm EST.

"By choosing CheckFreePay from Fiserv, Kmart is giving its customers access to a trusted service that will enable efficient electronic delivery of their payments," Sean Dingwall, vice president, CheckFreePay, Fiserv, was quoted as stating for the press release. "There are many consumers who prefer to pay their bills in person and receive a receipt to document the transaction; the expansion of the CheckFreePay service to Kmart stores nationwide will provide a secure, convenient bill payment option to Kmart customers."
