Google Glass, an optical head-mounted display product, is allegedly losing popularity among some developers and consumers, bringing into question its profitability and attractiveness among potential investors.
Reuters reports that developers around the world are losing interest in the technological product for various reasons.
"It looks super nerdy," said Washington, DC-based consultant Shevetank Shah said, according to the site.
"I'm a card carrying nerd, but this was one card too many."
Perhaps the most obvious example of Google Glass' declining popularity has been mobile game developer Glu Mobile abandoning continuous work on the product. Glu Mobile, the founding company of the "Kim Kardashian: Hollywood" game, has discontinued its Spellista puzzle game for the Google Glass.
However, some Google developers remain optimistic about the product, including Glass Head of Business Operations Chris O'Neill.
"We are completely energized and as energized as ever about the opportunity that wearables and Glass in particular represent," he said, according to Reuters.
"We are as committed as ever to a consumer launch. That is going to take time and we are not going to launch this product until it's absolutely ready."
Google has not made an official announcement regarding the specifics of the product's decline in popularity.
