Apple's Upgraded iCloud Online Service to Allow Photo Sharing, Video Syncing

| By

Apple will be upgrading its iCloud online service in the coming months, including a massive change in its photos, where it would allow sharing of images between various iCloud users, as well as comment on them, according to The Washington Post. The announcement is set to take place at the Apple worldwide developer conference, set to begin June 11, 2012 in San Francisco, Calif. This upgrade, notes U.K.'s publication The Telegraph, may be part of iOS 6, the next version of Apple's mobile operating system for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

Previously, iCloud, which debuted in October 2011 and used to store user data like songs, apps, and appointments, only allowed for photos to be synced via other Apple devices with a feature called Photo Stream, but the new and major upgrade would allow other users to see and interact with the photos, akin to web sites and programs like Facebook and Instagram. Currently, according to Apple and The Telegraph, iCloud allows users to store photos and share between devices - but not other iCloud accounts - via an photo stream for a maximum of 30 days or 1,000 photos.

In addition to being able to share photos, Apple, according to the Washington Post, is currently working on a new iCloud feature that would allow users to sync their videos, as well. Similarly, although apps are available on Apple devices like the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch for taking notes and setting up reminders, the iCloud upgrade will additionally allow access to "Notes" and "Reminders" through iCloud.com from any computer or device with internet access, states the Post in an article reported this Tuesday.

Currently, rumors rose that users testing the iCloud beta website, beta.icloud.com, have seen changes to the online service, including the removal of Google maps for Apple's own mapping software, according to The Telegraph via Apple website 9to5mac.com. There is also speculation that Apple "overhaul its iTunes software," according to The Telegraph. For now nothing is confirmed, as representatives for Apple did not comment to any of the rumors to The Washington Post. The upgrades and changes are rumored to be announced at the Apple developer conference in June.
