The video game earned $500 million in generated revenue and was largely responsible for its developer's significant third-quarter earnings.

"Work has also begun on future expansion packs as well as on our next full game release," Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg, said, according to the site.

"We're very pleased with the launch and continuing engagement."

Activision developers are expected to develop the game's expansion content and subsequent games given its initial success. The company is also looking to improve its online accessibility and features.

Destiny is a science fiction multiplayer online first-person shooter game that was originally developed by Bungie. The game is available on the Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360 and the Xbox One.
