Shake Shack announces second Chicago location

| By

Shake Shack, which began as a small eating destination in Madison Square Park in New York City, has announced that it will continue its expansion around the world, this time opening its second location in the Chicago area.

Located in River North, the new franchise location is expected to open on Nov. 4, next to other commercial space.

"In the spirit of Chicago's vibrant public art collection and in homage to Shake Shack's roots as a hot dog cart art installation in New York City," organizers of the opening said, according to NBC Chicago.

"The puzzles invite the neighboring community to engage with them."

In recent years, Shake Shack has become so popular in New York City that its owners installed live-stream cameras of its long lines so that customers can monitor its length. It has also expanded into several locations around the world, including Russia and India.

The company also announced this summer that it would expand into the ground floor of the new Chicago Athletic Association Hotel, NBC Chicago also reports.

The company was founded in 2004 by Danny Meyer.
