GTX 980 VS R9 290X VS GTX 780 Ti: The Battle of Video Cards

| By

According to Hardocp, every video card has its own difference in the power delivery system from other video cards. The GTX 980 has a smart power delivery system, a great working overclocks and offers a great gaming experience through its stable gaming clock.

According to Gpuboss, the GTX 980 has a clock speed of 1,127 MHz, its turbo clock speed is 1,216 MHz. Other specification it has is, it has a memory of 4,096 MB, an output processor of 64, and has lower TDP. The GTX 980 has shading units of 2,880 and texture mapping units of 240 and a memory bus of 384 bits.

GTX 980 as compared to Radon R9 290X, has better overall performance, power, noise, gaming, computing test, benchmarks, and how the card turns hot and loud whenever it goes idle or on load. Radeon R9 290 on the other hand has higher ratings on floating-point performance and has wider memory bus.

The Radeon R9 290 compared to GTX 980 has more shading units of about 2,816 and texture mapping units of 176, while the GTX 980 has 128. Radeon R9 290 surpasses GTX 980 on passmark score, graphics score, clock speed, memory clock speed, turbo clock speed, pixel rate, direct compute score, but it has lower TDP.

According to Gpuboss, GTX 980 as compared to GTX 780 Ti is better on overall performance, benchmarks, power, noise, gaming, computing tests and how hot and loud it turns when it goes idle or on load. However, the GTX 780 Ti has higher clock speed, turbo clock speed, pixel rate, texture mapping units, shading units, memory, memory bus, output processors, but lower TDP.

The GTX 980 has a better benchmark for graphics card performance than GTX 780 Ti, it also has better computing through Microsoft DirectCompute and benchmark that tests the DirectX 9 GPU performance. However, the GTX 780 Ti is better on the benchmark that tests the DirectX 10 GPU performance.

GTX 980 is worth $549, while the GTX 780 is to be discontinued.
