It took eight long years before the Japanese-based tech-giant released the new version of Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360. Sony after a long hiatus in releasing new game consoles then released the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. But after its release, Sony Computer Entertainment Head in United Kingdom has already hinted that the new versions of the latest game consoles will be released soon.
Tech Radar cited that Fergal Gara believes 'the new console cycle might be shorter than the last'. This means if it took eight years before Playstation 4 and Xbox One was released, Playstation 5 and Xbox 5 release date might be sooner than the gamers and tech-buffs expected.
AMD, the company that created the Jaguar CPU for Playstation 4 and Xbox One as well as the GPU for Sony's Wii U, echoed Gara's assumption. The company also believed that new version of Playstation and Xbox will be released soon.
"The life cycle of the products are probably going to be shorter," Devinder Kumar said. AMD's Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer also said, "Our customers are already thinking about what comes next." This somehow means as soon as the Playstation 4 and Xbox One were released, Sony and AMD have a new generation console underway.
It can be noted that Playstation 4 and Xbox One has already sold 12 million consoles since its release last April 2014. Wii U on the other hand, has already accounted a total of 6 million units after its November 2012 launch date, Examiner reported.
High sales and revenue for both PS4 and Xbox One can mean a sooner release date for the awaited Xbox Two and even the Playstation 5. "If the costs on the PS4 and Xbox One drop at a more reasonable rate, then both companies will be able to introduce their next generation consoles in the more usual five year timeframe."
PS3 and Xbox 360 said to be on the market for so long before Xbox One and PS4 was itntroduced because Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo 'need to scrimp out every bit of revenue it could with those consoles'. Gamers can expect the release date of Xbox Two and even PS5 soon if Xbox One and PS4 be 'as profitable as possible and as quickly as possible.
