| By

Fast-casual food chain Burger 21 is looking to expand into new locations in the Washington, D.C. area, including Rockville, Alexandrea, Manassas, Gainesville, Silver Spring, Bethesda, College Park and others.

The franchise, created and owned by The Melting Pot Restaurants, Inc., made the announcement on Wednesday, according to Restaurant News.

"The Greater Washington D.C. area continues to be a prime target for Burger 21′s future growth and development," said Burger 21 President Mark Johnston, according to the site.

"We're proud of the success of our first Virginia restaurant in Ashburn and look forward to discussing the value of the investment with local entrepreneurs and sharing with them what separates Burger 21 from the competition."

Burger 21 is well-known for its craft burgers and milkshakes that are said to rival those of the Five Guys franchise.

Early next month, the company will host a live webinar to discuss franchising opportunities with the chain targeted at the Washington, D.C. area. It has also released a list of preliminary qualifications for prospective franchisees, including a minimum net worth of $500,000.

There are currently 14 established locations around the country.
