Pizza Hut is trailing behind Domino's in pizza sales.
Yum Brands, the parent company of Pizza Hut, announced last week that its same-store sales in the United States fell two percent in the last quarter of FY2014 coupled with declining operating profit, the Washington Post reports.
"I think it has really boiled down to convenience and the ability for Domino's to really capitalize on the move toward online and mobile," Miller Tabak restaurant industry analyst Stephen Anderson told the newspaper.
On Domino's end, the company grew 7.7 percent in the United States with an 8-percent increase in profits.
It also has opened up a number of new franchise locations around the country.
"It's ultimately about the better retention of customers, better frequency of orders from customers, and as they have a better experience with Domino's, we get more orders from them," Domino's chief executive J. Patrick Doyle told the Washington Post.
The company's representative mentioned that the group's push to increase online activity and improve technological applications has helped to boost sales.
Pizza Hut representatives have not commented on their current state.
