Convicted Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice has already paid her share of the $414,588 restitution which is part of their sentence ordered by the court. A sum of $200,000 was paid to the U.S. government, according to ABC News. Her husband Joe Giudice, however, is yet to pay the other half of the restitution. Teresa's lawyer has confirmed that her payment of $150,000 was acquired through a contract advance while the remaining $50,000 was brought in through a loan from a friend.
Meanwhile, Joe has faced another lawsuit in state court in Paterson on Wednesday for a driver's license fraud charge. He allegedly presented his brother's birth and marriage certificates to the Motor Vehicle Commission in Paterson back in 2010 in order to get a new driver's license, since his original license has been suspended five months earlier following a drunk-driving conviction. Because of this new case against him, his prison sentence could extend to a maximum of 10 years, but during last month's hearing, a Passaic County Assistant Prosecutor said that a plea deal could make his prison term run coterminous with his federal sentence. Joe has not yet confirmed whether to accept the plea deal during the hearing come Wednesday, but Judge Adam Jacobs said that he would like to resolve the said case without delay, as this has been one of the oldest cases on his list.
The reality TV couple appeared recently in an interview with Andy Cohen on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live, and talked about how they felt about the result of the prosecution, getting into jail, and on telling their daughters about the situation. Teresa is set to serve her term of 15 months in jail on January 5, 2015 while Joe will surrender to authorities and be detained for 41 months after Teresa comes out of prison, so that one of them can take care of their four young daughters. The couple made a guilty plea to bankruptcy, wire, and mail fraud last March.
