After months of rumors that Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are headed for divorce, the rapper seems to admit their separation.
Cannon, who is married to Carey for six years, told People on Tuesday: "Ultimately I would think that is what life is all about, to try to pursue happiness, and I try to wake up and take each day with a grain of salt, and say, 'How can I be happy today? How can I affect someone else's day, and hopefully make them happy?' '"
And while the "Gigolo" singer is trying to move on from his supposedly separation from the diva, he said he takes it "one day at a time."
"That's why we all entertain, to put a smile on others' faces. I take that as a lifelong goal, but still, at the same time, take it one day at a time," the 34-year-old rapper said.
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have three-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe.
So far, Cannon is keeping his friends' company amid this life test.
"I wake up every day feeling blessed to be able to be creative, and that someone is paying me to be creative is the most mind-boggling thing to me in the world... and I just know that all of this other stuff is truly just a blessing. I'm constantly reminded [of that] because I don't stay far away from the community in which I was raised.
"That's the thing, I keep the same people around me and it doesn't change."
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon were married in 2008.
In August, Cannon was quoted saying that "There is trouble in paradise. We have been living separate houses for a few months."
This statement, according to a source of E! News, made Carey "devastated" as the diva has remained silent amid speculations surrounding their alleged separation.
"She was devastated when he spoke out about their issues. She's started the proceedings to make sure the ball is in her court from now on," the source told E! News in early September.
