A year after the announced development, "Whore of the Orient" receives not-so-positive attention as its title is being contested. Release date has been set, however news on development and issues remain scarce online apart from trailer - will the game still be released?
Last year, Team Bondi announced the development of an action-adventure video game titled "Whore of the Orient". Release date for PS4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows has been set for 2015. However, as "Whore of the Orient" was in development, issues on the controversial title arose.
"Whore of the Orient" dubbed by its director as "one of the great untold stories of the twentieth century" as the trailer is released is another controversial game as its previously highly criticized "L.A. Noire" released in 2011.
The issue as the announcement of "Whore of the Orient" PS4, Xbox One and Microsoft Office release date went viral as well as the trailer, was raised by a member of the Australian-Chinese community. Represented by then-councilor of the City of Monash, Jieh-Yung Lo, he shares his statement through The Age.
Lo shares, "It's the use of the word 'Orient', more even than the word 'whore', that is the issue. The O-word is very similar to the N-word for African-American communities. It's a 19th century racial-colonial conception and it's especially painful for older people in the communities. That was a very bad time in China, and people don't want or need to have dragged up."
"Whore of the Orient" with a release date of 2015 for PS4, Xbox One and Microsoft is supported by the NSW state government as it has allocated $200,000 for the video game's development.
To date, "Whore of the Orient" developers and KMM have released no information on the status of development, save for the trailer. Hopefully, even amidst the issues, production continues, and the video game is released date come 2015.
