Macy's To Open At 6 P.M. On Thanksgiving For Black Friday: Trend Can Follow

| By

Black Friday will start even earlier as the showcase of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will open its store at 6:00 p.m. that night as opposed to a later opening.

Macy's made the announcement on Tuesday that the doors will open to its full-line department stores at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, two hours earlier than last year, according to CNBC. The trend for this wild shopping day where customers can save a ton of money for their holiday shopping continues to get earlier and earlier.

Macy's is the company leading the way to take away more time from what is traditionally a holiday most companies are closed and the employees can spend time with their families.

Believe it or not, Thomas said that the employees appreciate having time to shop on Black Friday, meaning that they like working the Thanksgiving Day shift. She said that shifts have already been voluntarily filled. They will be paid time-and-a-half.

In 2013, J.C. Penney, Wal-Mart, Target and others also opened their doors on the holiday, according to CNBC.

Macy's spokeswoman Holly Thomas told CNBC that last year, its flagship Herald Square store broke its record for a Thanksgiving weekend opening, with 15,000 people waiting at the doors. It was the first time the department store opened on Thanksgiving Day; in 2012, it opened at midnight on Black Friday.

According to PwC's Holiday Outlook study, 49 percent of shoppers plan to browse online to research products and make purchases on Thanksgiving morning.

Macy's announced last month that it will hire 86,000 seasonal workers this holiday, an increase of about 3.6 percent compared to 2013.
