The Real Housewives of New Jersey Couple Teresa and Joe Giudice Finally Speaks Up After Court Sentence

| By

In their first interview following their sentence of 15 months and 41 months in jail respectively, Teresa and Joe Giudice opens up to Andy Cohen, which aired in Bravo, Monday night.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey disclosed that only her eldest daughter, 13-year old Gia, knew what they are currently facing. Teresa told Cohen that her daughter is trying to be strong for her. "She said, 'Mommy, don't worry about it. I'll be there. I'll help daddy with the girls. That will make me a better mom. That will prepare me when I'm a mom.' It broke my heart when she said that," told the reality star. She mentioned that she still didn't know what to tell them if ever she's gonna tell them.

The couple also told Cohen they were surprised by the court's decision that both of them will go to jail, following their guilty plea last March. They did not expect that Teresa would also have to face charges since she was never part of Joe's transactions then. When Cohen asked the couple what went wrong along the way, Teresa explained it's because she never read the content of the papers she was being asked to sign by Joe. "I do need to understand things before I sign them," she admitted. Meanwhile, when Joe was asked if he knew the shady nature of the contracts he was handing his wife, his answer was not clear enough, but when Cohen pointed out that he was taking away false loans, he replied, "ok, whatever, I was taking out false loans."

Teresa will start serving her term on January 2015, while her husband Joe, will surrender to authorities after she gets out, in order for one of them to be able to care for their four daughters while one is away.
