On October 13, while in a press conference for her new movie Wild at the BFI London Film Festival, the Legally Blonde actress opened up on her arrest last April 2013.
When asked about the unfortunate incident that happened a year ago, Witherspoon explained that it made the public see that she is more than just a goody-two-shoes that she always plays on screen.
According to the actress in an interview with Hollywood Reporter, "I think it was a moment where people realized that I wasn't exactly what they thought I was," she continued, "I guess maybe we all like to define people by the way the media presents them, and I think that I showed I have a complexity that people didn't know about."
The 38-year-old actress also added, "It's part of human nature. I made a mistake. We all make mistakes. The best you can do is say sorry and learn from it and move on."
Last April 19, 2013, when the actress was in Atlanta filming the movie The Good Lie, both Witherspoon and her husband Jim Toth, were pulled over after their car was witnessed weaving across a double line. Toth was driving at that time and was found to be driving under influence. Witherspoon was arrested for disobeying the arresting officer's instructions to keep herself in the car. The actress was arguing with the arresting officer and told him that she did not believe he was a real police officer and she kept asking if he knew who she was.
The actress apologized for her behavior and told Us Magazine at that time that, "I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said," The Mud actress continued, "It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse," she continued. "I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am."
Witherspoon's husband, Jim Toth, is a talent agent and co-head of motion picture talent at the Creative Artists Agency, where his wife is a client. They announced their engagement last December 2010 and got married on March 2011.
