After numerous references like the "Do You Wanna Build A Snowman" moment and the "Let It Go" line, to Disney's Frozen, "Once Upon A Time" finally added something to the mythology.
Major Spoilers For "Once Upon A Time" Past This Point.
The show introduced the villainous Snow Queen, played by Elizabeth Mitchell, as Elsa's aunt.
The revelation was revealed late in the episode during a fairyback (the show's reference fir fairytale based flashbacks) set in Arendelle.
After freeing the Snow Queen from a magical urn, Elsa (Georgina Haig) and Snowie McQ went back to Elsa's castle, where Snow Queen revealed that she is the sister of Elsa and Anna's (Elizabeth Lail) Mother.
A large part of the episode in the modern and past dealt with the origin of Elsa's powers, which is certainly a large part of the puzzle.
The show pulled back from the reveal what many though were leading towards saying that the Snow Queen is Elsa's real mother, because of the pair similar hair, much more powers.
And for fans of the movie freaked out that the audience is getting a major part of the mythology stuck on TV, rather than in the movie theaters, producer eases the anxiety.
Producer Adam Horowitz revealed at the "Once" New York Comic-Con panel, "You're going to see the story continue in its own 'Once Upon A Time' way, rather than anything that might happen in the sequel."
