Cassandra Clare's "The Mortal Instruments" series will return on the small screen after stalling in the box office scene.
Production Company Constantin Film will be relaunching "Mortal Instruments" as a high-end drama.
Constantin, which produce "The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones," controls the rights to the YA fantasy franchise.
"Helix" writer-producer Ed Decter was tapped by Constantin to be the show runner for the TV adaptation.
Decter is also known for "Unforgettable," "In Plain Sight," and "The Client List."
The project is currently in development, with Constantin planning to begin production next year.
There are no broadcast partners are yet attached to release the series.
Constantin originally planned to turn Clare's fantasy series into a feature film franchise but shelved that idea after the first installment tanked the box office.
The film, starring Lily Collins (Clary Fray) and Jamie Campbell Bower (Jace Herondale), earned only $31 million domestically.
The company insisted to not abandon the franchise and planned to return to "Mortal Instruments."
"It actually makes sense to do (the novels) as a TV series," Constantin Film and TV Head Martin Moszkowicz "There was so much from the book that we had to leave out of the Mortal Instruments film. In the series we'll be able to go deeper and explore this world in greater detail and depth."
The series is part of a broader strategic shift at Constantin that will see the German-based compaby move into the English-language television series.
According to Moszkowic, Constantin is looking ta a possible television adaptations of several of its movies, including "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer" and the "Resident Evil" franchise.
