With the reports on poor sales of "Dead Space 3", many have speculated that a "Dead Space 4" would be impossible.
But Visceral Games general manager Steve Papoutsis seems to give assurance that Dead Space is not dead.
The truth is, it is an essential game for Visceral.
"Is Dead Space dead? Not for me it's not. I love it, the team at Visceral loves it. Having worked on it for seven years, this was a good break for us to try something different." Papoutsis told Kotaku UK.
"Dead Space" series began in 2008, which was described by its creator Glen Schofield as "the most terrifying game we could." It is a survival horror video game developed by Visceral Games and published by Electronic Arts.
Due to its success, it had a prequel, and in 2011 the sequel was released.
"But there's a lot of passion about that franchise, not just from me but from others in the company, so I think it's an IP that's important for the company. You never know where it's going to go... I'd definitely be excited about what it would be like on this gen," Papoutsis added in the interview.
Reports about "Dead Space 3" suggest that it did not meet Electronic Arts' sales expectations, the reason why a "Dead Space 4" is not in progress.
In June, Xbox magazine reported that "Dead Space 4" will be created, turning down rumors about poor sales. But there was no mention when it will be.
"Do I think that we will create a Dead Space game again? Yes, I think so. But when we do so, we have to think about what made the previous ones successful and how we go about envisioning Dead Space for a new generation," EA Studios executive vice president Patrick Söderlund.
As clarification, he added: "Now, I'm not announcing a Dead Space game. We're not building one just to be very clear, but I'm saying is there an opportunity or possibility to do one in the future? Absolutely."
Söderlund also made clear that Dead Space 4 was not cancelled.
"Rumors about poor Dead Space 3 sales and an unannounced Dead Space 4 being cancelled are 'patently false.' While we have not announced sales for Dead Space 3, we are proud of the game and the franchise remains an important IP to EA," Söderlund said.
