While reports confirm that "Bridget Jones 3" is still underway, fans should not hold their breath as the movie will not come out any time soon. The film is facing a couple of setbacks: Hugh Grant, who has been on the two preceding movies had decided to pull out from the film. The book-turned-movie will also reportedly need a new writer.
"Bridget Jones 3" or "Bridget Jones's Baby" has been in the works for quite some time and since it was announced, Grant has been attached to star in the film, but it appears that the actor has opted to say "pass" on the third installment. Reports about Grant's departure from the franchise have gone around since 2012 when the film was halted. At the time, Working Title production's Tim Bevan denied the rumors, saying: "Reports that Hugh Grant has exited 'Bridget Jones's Baby' are untrue."
Things are final now, it appears, as Grant was quoted in an interview with Free Radio interview, reportedly saying "I decided not to do it. But I think they're going to go ahead and do it without Daniel."
According to Grant, "The book's excellent, by the way, but the script is completely different - well, the scrip as I last saw it a few years ago."
The film's production team appears to have the same thing in mind as Metro reported that the original script will be rewritten. The first approved script was written by the book's author Helen Fielding, with the help of "One Day" author David Nichols, but Emma Thompson was reportedly tapped to save the story.
A source reportedly told The Sun about the production team's decision, saying: "Trying to get a third film into production has been a nightmare. The cast didn't like the script and they've now got Emma involved in the hope she can add her British charm."
According to Us Weekly, the film has yet to get a studio for its distribution.
