NBA player Kevin Durant has been fractured in his right foot and will most probably be missing out around a month at least of the season. This announcement was made last Sunday by Oklahoma City Thunder. Durant is suffering from a broken bone at the base of his small toe, known as a Jones Fracture.
Kevin Wayne Durant is an American professional basketball player with the Oklahoma City Thunder of the NBA. The 26-year-old athlete is standing 6 feet 9 inches and played the small forward and power forward positions for the Thunder.
Durant has received several awards throughout his career such as NBA Most Valuable Player Award, four NBA scoring titles, NBA Rookie of the Year Award and an Olympic gold medal.
The injury usually requires surgery so Durant will be missing the beginning of the 2014-2015 season as he will be needing six to eight weeks of recovery period.
A Jones fracture is a term used for a broken bone in the midsection of the fifth metatarsal of the foot, at the base near the little toe. This was discovered when Durant informed the team he was having issues after their practice. The injury is usually caused by stress as it is the result of poor blood supply to the concerned area.
In the National Basketball Association (NBA), players to experiences Jones fracture normally opts to go under surgery. The most common surgery to repair this type of fracture involves placing a screw into the foot to stabilize the area around the injury. This also minimizes the amount of time required for immobilization. This surgery has been standard in the recent years,
Team Thunder seemed relieved to have caught the injury in its early stage. If not treated immediately, the fracture can cause pain and swelling. Durant's return to play would be sometime late November or early December so the Team will have to rely on other players to cover Durant.
Let us hope "Durable Durant" gets well as soon as possible. Others expressed their support for Durant like Indiana Pacers star Paul George. While recovering from his own injury on the leg, he tweeted to his fellow athlete, "Get Well KD! Speedy Recovery."
